Jojoba oil: MVP of skin and hair care

Hey there Skin and hair care enthusiast! Have you found yourself stumbling across Jojoba oil and are super curious about the effects it has on our bodies? Well look no further as I endeavour to unpack the ins and outs of this amazing oil and how it can benefit human hair and skin and why you NEED it in your everyday routine!

What is jojoba oil?

Jojoba oil (extracted from the seeds Simmondsia chinensis) originates from southern Arizona and Northwest Mexico. Jojoba oil is chemically 98% wax, differing it from a traditional oil. It contains free fatty acids, sterols, antioxidants and fat soluble vitamins. The main vitamin contained in Jojoba oil is Vitamin E (79%) as well as copper and zinc.

Key benefits of Jojoba:

-          Moisturisation: Since it is rich in vitamin E and essential minerals, Jojoba oil closely resembles you body’s natural sebum, making it an excellent moisturiser on the skin. As sebum coats and moisturises the skin, this is due to the large make up of very long chain fatty acids which do a superb job at holding in water – Alok Vij, MD.

-          Anti – inflammatory: having a large makeup from vitamin E, B and complex copper and zinc, Jojoba oil is profoundly great at collagen formation, freeing radicals, and wound healing

-          May improve acne, psoriasis and eczema: Jojoba oil will not block pores, overhydrate or become too oily, in fact it can make its way into the hair follicles and delivery its benefits on a far deeper level.

-          Restore damaged tissue and sunburns: Jojoba can stimulate collagen synthesis, which is vital for healing wounds, scars and reducing wrinkles. In addition to this, Vitamin E can reduce acute damage from UVB radiation and further soothe sunburns – this is not a substitute for suncream. (Pelican healthcare).

-          Restore broken hair: With the same effect it has on the skin, the long chain fatty acids can help to hold moisture in the hair, helping them to appear thicker and less brittle. In addition, copper and zinc are very important for hair growth and synthesis. Collagen is a product in hair and so the extra production can aid with reducing split ends and breakage.

Are there any side effects?

Jojoba oil is considered to be extremely safe for human use and allergies are uncommon, this said, it is recommended to undertake a patch test before using Jojoba oil or any other cosmetic products. Jojoba oil should also not be consumed, and kept out of the eyes and reach of small children (of course).

How can you use Jojoba oil?

Jojoba oil has its best effects when used at a topically applied product directly onto the hair or skin. For best effects, partner it up with another carrier oil and run through the area of application until fully worked in, leave in for as long as required – this does not have to be washed out. The number one way we would recommend using this super-oil is from our beard balm (whether you have a beard or not) we have produced an immaculate blend of Jojoba oil and other natural ingredients to support clear, healthy skin and hair, so why not give it a try!
